In a rare moment of decadence I decided on a manicure. The lady (for she was, after all, over 60) remarked on my “writer’s bump”. It had me wondering, do young writers today even know what a “writer’s bump” is? I remember being very proud of mine – it said “she’s surgically attached to her pen” and I could recognize other wordsmiths by their calloused middle digits.
These days, with pens scrapped for keyboards, it appears all I have to look forward to is RSI. I can type as fast as I can think and writing feels so laborious when there's a deadline looming, so the keyboard wins most days.
Does anyone else out there still have a “writer’s bump”? Perhaps I shall have to start cultivating mine again.
